UNKL Deck # 3

Derek from UNKL tossed us some images for the 3rd deck in the UNKLBRAND series. These hand screened flat decks (58" in length) are limited to only 1 per color....cherry, walnut, yellow and raw.

They will be on display at the upcoming LAUNCHPAD exhibit here in Edmonton. That show runs from June 19th till July 5th over at Latitude 53 (10248-106st). Purchasing info will be released soon after.

With the UNKL release just days away, we figured nows the time to familiarize those of you that have no clue as to who these guys are.

Straight from their own mouths and site......

How about a little UNKL history 101...

Derek Welch and Jason Bacon started UNKL back in 2004 in Portland, Oregon as a way to focus their creative energy on non-client based projects. We had created so many characters and stories over the years, we figured why not make something out of it. So we did. Our first character, HazMaPo launched January of 2005. That first offering of 1,800 figures sold in about a month, so we decided to keep doing it. September of 2007 will bring the first UNKL character to television. TinPo will support CBS Saturday morning cartoons with 30 second animated shorts. That brings us where we are now. Making characters we love and getting them out to people who also love them any way we can.

Sean Griffin (aka GriffinOne) is currently living in Tempe Arizona and is a nationwide muralist and illustrator. Though his art carries a strong graffiti influence, his work ranges in many different styles and mediums that may surprise you.

We had the privelage of meeting Sean way back when through a posting over at Land+Living, and have been fans ever since. A true professional and a pleasure for Boardeli to work with thus far.

Designer Profile : Azadeh Qasimi

We became familiar with Iranian graphic designer Azadeh Qasimi at last years Deck the Halls exhibit in Edmonton and quickly added her to our list of 'must haves' for our Series 1 line-up.

My name is Azadeh Qasimi. I am Persian.

Art is always my interest, especially in traditional contexts. Almost all formats and mediums are my favorites, but drawing and painting make the main part of my works.

Design is another aspect and I have academic background in both painting and graphic design. As a designer, I try to use my experience and skills in traditional arts to make new designs. I think it is very interesting to use the power of traditional formats for transferring messages in a new way.

Her 100 run deck is absolutely solid, but it's her 10 run variant that we're pretty pumped to release. Images coming soon!
